In-Laws in Hamburg: Day 1
Everybody survived Gary and Shirley's first day in Hamburg. High points of the day:
- Picking up a very appreciative Hund at her Hundehotel, after a trip that took far longer than appreciated (German Word of the Day: Stau [traffic jam]).
- The obligatory one-hour cruise through Hamburg harbor (hopefully everybody got something out of my decidedly less-than-literal translation of the tour guide; as we were riding through the container port section of the harbor, and he started reading names off of containers and telling fascinating facts about each shipping line, I decided it was okay to cut back to translating the very high points)
- Wine shopping (we filled four of the six slots in Gary's wine holder, and we haven't even gotten to the real wine stores yet!)
- A long walk with the dog through the Planten un Blomen
- A nice dinner
And now it's off to meet Gary and Shirley at their hotel, from where we'll set off to catch the morning train to Berlin!
