It's hard to believe, but the biggest project of my life--the one that has been around 4 years in the making--is almost done.
I'm talking about my novel.
I have two and a half chapters left to go. I have vowed to finish it this month, partly in order to embark on another crazy project next month, but mostly because I'm almost done! I can taste it!
However, don't get all excited about reading said novel once these two and a half chapters are done. It needs major revision, and following the advice of every single writer who's ever published a book and given advice1, I'm going to place this novel in a drawer for a while so that when I look at it again it will be with fresh eyes.
1The exception is Robert Heinlein, who wrote some fine science fiction but if you've read the entire body of his work, you'll understand why I'm not following his advice. They say he wrote some good books, but others should have been placed in a drawer and left there. Besides, I'm not Robert Heinlein, so the chances of my publishing a crappy book are smaller than nonexistent2
2unless I pay to publish it myself. Which is lame.

"They" are right about Heinlein. I've enjoyed a lot of his works - many of his books are on my shelves - but there is definitely some variance in quality.
"Crazy project" == NaNoWriMo?
How awesome! Congratulations!
Then again, you could also just be like Anne Rice and declare that you do not need an editor. No revisions necessary, baby! ;-)
